Dr. Leow Aik Ming
Dr Leow graduated from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India in 1995 with a first class degree in MBBS. Following his internship training, he began his general surgery training at several general hospitals in Kuala Lumpur and Pahang. He passed the specialist examinations for general surgery and he was conferred the prestigious fellowship degree by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) in 2001.
Dr Leow started his plastic surgical training at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital and Hospital University Sains Malaysia. He was the pioneer batch of the locally trained plastic surgeons from Hospital Sains Malaysia, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. He obtained his degree in Master of Surgery (Plastic Surgery) in 2005. Over the next few years, Dr Leow underwent several subspecialised trainings in plastic surgery. He completed his fellowships’ training in craniomaxillofacial surgery at Freiburg University (Germany) and craniofacial surgery at Chang Gung University (Taiwan). In 2009, Dr Leow was one of the few selected recipients of the prestigious PSEF International Scholar (USA) award by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS)/ American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons (ASMS). This special award enables Dr Leow to visit some of the best plastic surgical centres in the United States of America to enrich his skills and experiences.
Dr Leow has been actively involved in reconstructive surgeries for many complex craniofacial deformities resulting from birth, trauma, or tumour excision. His expertise includes microsurgery, cleft and craniofacial surgery, orthognathic surgery, cranioplasty, ear reconstruction and many types of facial aesthetic surgeries (blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, otoplasty, facelift, forehead lift, facial contouring surgery, etc). Other experiences include body contouring surgery, breast reconstructive surgery, laser surgery and liposuction.
Dr Leow held several prominent positions in the public hospitals and universities before venturing into private practices. He was the head of plastic and reconstructive surgery department at Kota Bharu General Hospital, Kelantan. Dr Leow has been actively involved in the treatment and care of patients born with cleft lip/palate and craniofacial deformities in Kelantan. He is one of the professional members of the combined cleft lip/palate team at Kota Bharu General Hospital, Kelantan.
Dr Leow was also an honorary lecturer for the undergraduate trainees in dental surgery and post-graduate trainees in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. Throughout his career, Dr Leow has received several awards and recognitions for his contributions in his field. He is a member of the Malaysian Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (MSPRS). Dr Leow is also an active member for several international plastic surgical societies such as the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), Oriental Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (OSAPS) and American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). At present, Dr Leow is a consultant plastic and reconstructive/ cosmetic surgeon at Pantai Hospital Ipoh and Pantai Hospital Manjung.
